It is widely known that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the author of Sherlock Holmes, tried his hand in many genres, including horror, historical fiction, science fiction, and fantasy. In fact, his ambitions as an author lay far away from the mystery genre. He viewed his Sherlock Holmes stories as the way to earn cash while he was engaged in “serious” writing as his main occupation.
Some of his science fiction has become no less famous than his mystery, including THE LOST WORLD, featuring Professor Challenger, the famous scientist, a nearly exact opposite of Sherlock Holmes, whose tremendous ego eclipsed the earth and the sky. However, remarkably, some of his books remain undiscovered an poorly known even to the Conan Doyle fans.
In our recently established Dragonwell Classics series, we found one of such books: THE MARACOT DEEP, one of the first novels about the lost city of Atlantis, a remarkable and highly enjoyable story about the expedition of Professor Marakot to the bottom of the ocean. While this book is one of Conan Doyle’s best, it has not been published in the US since the 1970s and has never before been published in electronic format!
